Sorry for another extended issue of MIA, from the blog!

Been another crazy busy month for me!

And to prove it I took a little picture.....

I have been SO BUSY with my etsy shop, I am surprised I find any time to actually EAT, SHOWER, or SLEEP!

(I'll admit sometimes I do skip out on the first 2, YES I know!)

And I am not even FINISHED with the backed up orders for February!

But can anyone believe it is already almost MARCH?

Well maybe spring will be showing it's pretty face soon!

Than again....

Maybe not!

Today is cold and UGLY here in Utah, well at least MY part of Utah.

Blah!

I'm FREEZING my booty off! Burrrr it's cold in here(and out there, and over there and right there too!)....

But I am hoping to get some spunktacular spring crafts done soon!

Why it's important to me.....

This month is February.

And February 23rd is Jo's Birthday.

Who is Jo you ask?

She is my Aunt.

Who passed away last year from complications of Ovarian Cancer.

For those of you who don't know, I strive to be an advocate for Ovarian Cancer.

It is an issue that we as women need to be more aware of.

Because there are MANY MANY women who never even give it a thought.

Ever.

And there are many of us who may one day, be faced with the fact that we have Ovarian Cancer.

And never even knew or suspected we had it.

And then, we will wish, we had known more about it.

Statistic's from 2011:

The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2011, about 21,990 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed and 15,460 women will die of ovarian cancer in the United States.

According to the data, the mortality rates for ovarian cancer have not improved in forty years since the “War on Cancer” was declared. However, other cancers have shown a marked reduction in mortality, due to the availability of early detection tests and improved treatments. Unfortunately, this is not the case with ovarian cancer, which is still the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers.

Ovarian cancer accounts for approximately three percent of cancers in women. While the ninth most common cancer among women, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women, and is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers.

^{When one is diagnosed and treated in the earliest stages, the 5-year survival rate is over 90%. Due to ovarian cancer's non-specific symptoms and lack of early detection tests, only 19% of all cases are found at this early stage. If caught in stage III or higher, the survival rate can be as low as 30.6%. Usually I tend to stay away from ranting posts. But not today.

You know what annoys the hail out of me. Anonymous comments. Really they do.

Now I have only had a few of them post stupid and unnecessary comments on my blog.

But they are still annoying especially when you see them all over other blogs too.

And why is it their comment always starts off with "Not to be rude but_____" or "No offence but____?

Really? You don't mean to be rude, but lets go ahead and put some totally point less RUDE or offensive comment anyways. Even though I am not meaning to be rude and all.

DUH!

Or the idiots who constantly SPELL check blogs? Seriously? Who has that much time on their hands? And who wants to have that much time to go and point out ALL the miss spelled or non proper grammar on every blog you come across? Holy Crap, really? Totally stupid and pointless. Woopidy-dooo-dah!

Like bloggers really care that much that they NEED you to specifically point out that they used the word THREW improperly because they have AUTO CORRECT on your computer that changes everything to what IT thinks is the correct grammar. (YES mine does it ALL THE TIME, and yes I had someone do that one recently)...... and YES I realized I used HAIL, improper punctuation, and miss use of the words THEIR:THERE:THEY'RE......but guess what, I could give a crap less!

So I have recently switched the comment setting on the blog, to where if you are going to comment ANONYMOUSLY, guess what, YOU CAN'T at all! So go suck a rock! Or put a sock in it! Which ever you would prefer! Because frankly, I don't want to read your snide chicken shite comments (yes I meant to spell it SHITE!), because you are chicken shite, for hiding behind your ANONYMOUS. So go dump on someone else's parade, like people who drown puppies or politicians who steal their mothers pension. At least there your snide comments might be of some use!

Valentines Rag Wreath!

Last year I did a simple rag wreath for Valentines Day.
Made of an old red t-shirt that had seen WAY better days!
(can we say ahhh ohhh little bitty bleach accident!)

I just went with the traditional rag wreath. Cut little fabric squares. Glue them to a wreath form of choice. Hang it by a little piece of white ribbon. And PRESTO all done.
(yeah sorry don't have pictures of it in it's sad days)

But this year, it needed a BIG BIG BIG update!
Big. Huge. Gargantuan.

Today is a bum day. I'm not feeling well, my little Reenie is not feeling well. And I really DON'T like to stay in bed all day. So what better time to get some new project ideas! YEAH!

I've been trying to slowly redo my Craft-room, and I want to make some wood signs that look like old sewing shop posters. So I thought, hey, I'll do some vinyl. But then again, vinyl wouldn't really give me the vintage look I was going for. Then I thought, why not make some stencils! PERFECT!

I whipped out my new acquired Silhouette Cameo(I seriously love that thing! It's so awesome!) and went to work making some stencils!

And this is the basic one I came up with....

Pretty sweet eh! Total vintage sewing machine.

I'm planning on making boards with some pallets. Going for the distressed vintage look!

So now all I need to do is acquire some pallets & my awesome project will BEGIN! Hurray!

There is one thing, I am a bit stumped on, wording for the sign?

Anyone have any good ideas? Examples would be awesome!

Look forward to this project being COMPLETE coming in the next few weeks!

It's mid January, just the perfect time to start VALENTINES DAY CRAFTS!

I decided some wooden letters I had needed a little freshening up, so here we go!

So have you tried screen printing? I got this AWESOME Chandelier Screen Print on sale about 6 or so months ago at Hobby Lobby for $5!! I was so excited! I just had to have it!

But what would I put it on? Hmmmmm?

First I thought about a shirt, then nah.

So I opted for this instead....

I did a double layer look....

First I did a very bright white.

Then I used a "greige" Martha Stewart color that I had.

(I love the Martha paints by Plaid!)

I am VERY happy with my first Screen Print attempt!

Can't wait to use my new cute bag!

It's that time of the year again,

CHRISTMAS!

It seems each year it comes faster and faster. And that everything it stands for get lost in the shuffle of the hustle and bustle of the season.

And it makes me sad to see the true meaning of Christmas get pushed aside by everyone's insatiable need to spend a whole lot of GREEN!

I myself have been lost in the mix the past few years. No, my time was not being consumed for the search of the perfect gift, or the rat race we like to call BLACK FRIDAY. No, it was alot more than that. It was a lack of appreciation for the meaning.

But this year, has been far different than the years proceeding it. This has been a big year for my family. One full of change. The greatest change I have ever experienced.

I'd like to share a part of my favorite talk from this years Christmas Devotional from the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints...

"There is no better time than now, this very Christmas season, for all of us to rededicate ourselves to the principles taught by Jesus Christ.

Because He came to earth, we have a perfect example to follow. As we strive to become more like Him, we will have joy and happiness in our lives and peace each day of the year. It is His example which, if followed, stirs within us more kindness and love, more respect and concern for others.

Because He came, there is meaning to our mortal existence.

Well it's December already (CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!), and I am SERIOUSLY behind on all my crafty projects!

(I guess it doesn't help when your kids have seriously been sick for like 3 weeks strait right? And you can barely fit in a shower each day let alone CRAFT anything?)

Well this weekend was my Daughters 7th Birthday.

Being 7 she wanted to have a little friends, with a PURPLE theme!

My Friends Diaper Bag.....and I made it!

My friend, whom I LOVE and ADORE, is having her first bebe GIRL!
(she has 2 very cute little boys)

She asked if I would make her a Diaper Bag, and of course I couldn't refuse! I had been wanting to make one for quite some time now! So this was the perfect opportunity!

She wanted something cute and girly but NOT PINK! That was her one BIG request NO PINKNESS!

So I went threw about 20 different fabric combinations in my head and at the store and I found what I thought was PERFECT, and she thought so too....

And this BEAUTY was what I came up with!....

Isn't that fabric SPECTACULAR!!!!

The moment I spied it I KNEW it was PERFECT!

I just LOVE how it turned out!

Needless to say my friend LOVED it! She was so EXCITED!

So I was strolling the isles of the DI a few weeks ago and came across a little wooden candlestick holder for 25 cents, SCORE! JUST what I had been looking for, for a cupcake stand, YES!!!!!

I took my 25 cent candle stick and my $1 wooden circle(from Joann's) slapped on some E600 glue & some antique white paint and BOOM...

THIS is what I got....

Yes I realize those are COOKIES not CUPCAKES...

I hadn't gotten around to making cupcakes just yet...

But aren't they just so cute looking!

But I do plan on doing some cupcakes this week, so there will be a FABULOUS post about CUPCAKES this coming week!

Fall Fabric Bow Bracelet.....Tutorial

I love FALL. I love Fabric. I love Bows.

So why not put them all together right?

Here is how......

I found this bracelet for 10 cents! How awesome is that!

You need a bangle bracelet, and a strip of fabric!

Secure the fabric to the bracelet with a little hot glue, and wrap your fabric around all the way till you reach the end, and secure the end.

Now you have a nice little fabric wrapped bracelet!

Now take and embellish it with additional fabrics, rosettes, bows, what ever meets your fancy!

Super easy! Super cute!

All summer I had waited for my Beautiful little Yellow Rosebush in front of my house to get BIG lovely roses....

It did very well threw the summer with nice little cute ones....

but FINALLY it has one on there that is bigger than my fist!

Well, the FLU decided to visit my house this week!

Well hello everyone!

Sorry I have been so lax on projects the past 2 weeks, the lovely FLU decided it needed to come visit our house 2 weekends in a ROW! SPECTACULAR!

(I feel the sarcasm dripping from my lips)

And this weekend I was the lucky winner of the seasonal flu lottery!

The upside is I get to spend the day in bed tomorrow with my darling hubby taking care of me.....ahhh he loves my guts so much!

The downside is last weekend my 6 year old had the flu, and this weekend it's my 3 year old.

ah pooh....

Bless their little hearts!

So once I get over this spectacular junk I will be BACK with a few snazy projects I have been working on...

HURRAY!

But until then, I plan on sleeping, drinking lots of juice and enjoying the array of soups I have in my pantry!

Chicken Tortilla Soup~Crockpot style....

With weather getting colder, it's defiantly FALL!

And Fall is SOUP SEASON!

How about Chicken Tortilla Soup! Crockpot Style!

Super easy! Super delicious!

Want some? Well here's how you can make some for your very
own~

You need:

~Crockpot

(or you can do it the stove top way for the quick version)

~Boneless, Skinless, Chicken Breast

(I used 4 relatively good sized ones)

~1 can of diced green chilies

~1 can of Yellow or White Corn

~1 can of Black Beans

~1 can Mexican style Diced Tomatoes

~1 can of chicken broth

~1quarter white onion minced

~1tsp Cumin

~1 tsp garlic powder

~1 Tablespoon dried cilantro

~1 small lime

~Grated Cheese

~Sour Cream

~ Tortilla Chips or Soft Tortilla Shells

Okay now here's how you make it....

Put your chicken in the crock pot with a pinch of ALL the spices and about a quarter cup of water. Let cook until FULLY done....When it's no longer pink take and shred. Set aside.

Put all the canned ingredients into the crockpot, mix.

put the remaining spices and the diced onion into the crockpot, mix.

Add Chicken back into pot, mix.

Let mixture simmer in the crockpot for about another hour.

About 10 minutes before you are ready to serve, slice lime in half and SQUEEZE juice into soup and mix.

Serve in bowls garnished with Cheese, Sour Cream and Tortilla Chips!

Enjoy!

Well I started putting up the Halloween Decor. I just couldn't wait any longer!

I just wanted to show you my cute little coffee table set up!

My Mom made me the cute 'Trick or Treat' frame last year...

I made the silver pumpkin last year after I had seen some in the Pottery Barn magazine.

I tend to think the DOLLAR STORE is one of the best places to find fun stuff for Halloween. I found the skulls there and added a bit of black spray paint for effect.

Well that is just some of the decor I have for this year. I am sure I will be getting the rest up this week!

Halloween My FAVORITE Holiday!

This year I decided I needed to make a wreath, and almost everything I used came from the dollar store!

Don't mind the glare on the crow, the ModgePodge was still a bit wet in this here picture!

I've seen alot of feather wreaths at the store for Halloween Decor, but they run anywhere between $15 and $50! Yeah that's a bit out of my price range.....so I decided to make one for LESS than $5. Cam out pretty cute if I say so myself.

I am officially getting out the Halloween Decor this weekend, I just can't wait any longer!

Them: So I hear you have a blog, whats the name?

Me: Reenie Jae Creations.

Them: And what's your Etsy shop name?

Them: Ah, I see.

Me: What do you see?

Them: You're a cute-see type blog name then?

Me: Well , it started out as a label named after my kids nick-names so the blog just kind of took on the name too.

Them: Hummm, isn't very catchy and sort of doesn't go with your personality.

Me: Ah well, ugh, yeah I guess I have no comment for that one.

So what does that say about a name, blog name that is? What catches your attention? The odd name? The catchy name? The unique one?

When I started my blog I figured I'd go with something simple, something "cute".

Argh maties! Today be national talk like a Pirate day!

Being that be the day, I'll tell ye, the adventures I set upon today.

I set sail for the port of Micheals Crafts. The Martha Stewart isle was callin to me! So bein' that I had me a plan of action, I reckoned that I better be gettin' the Booty I was needin' before I met me doom.

Okay, It is really hard to type like that let alone TALK like that all day with my kids.....though I DID talk like that, all day, even on the phone! Needless to say, my kids had A LOT of fun!

Any who, I am officially addicted to the Martha Stewart paint line at Micheals Crafts! Holy Crow!

Today I went and picked myself up some fabric medium and some tint-able glaze.

My hubs is out o' town for work again for the first half of the week so I figure I would take advantage of all this free time I am going to be having and FINALLY stencil my entry way walls!

Plus I am making some cute pillows too! Hurrah!

Well, I am ready for FALL!

So after my dollar store excursion today, I came home and made

THIS.....

Sweet simple and took me less than 20 MINUTES!

I'll walk you threw it....

You will need:

~A Wreath ring

(foam, vine, wicker)

~Leaves

(garland, stems, whatever)

~Hot Glue Gun

~Ribbon

~and any other little tid-bits you might want to add....

Now add your Ribbon and Hang!

Wooohooo wasn't that EASY!!!!

I'm thinking I might add a CROW or a mini Pendant FALL Banner in the middle......

Success!

I LOVE being able to find ALL the things I was set on FINDING! Though my cart was TOTALLY packed, because well, I was going nuts-o in the Halloween and Fall section, I had to stop and take a BREATHER and remind myself I DID come in with a purpose and today was NO DAY to splurge!

But all in all a very successful trip to the Dollar Tree!

I have been thinking all week, about just getting out my HALLOWEEN decorations!

I LOVE Halloween! LOVE IT! It is my Favorite Holiday. From the "holiday" perspective, I would take it over Christmas ANY day! Yes, Yes I would.

Halloween is a PRETTY BIG THING around here. I go all OUT!

So when is early, to early for Halloween decorations? I mean, it's half way(practically) threw September, and I am putting up early fall stuff, which I will just be taking down again till AFTER Halloween? Which means there isn't really any point in putting it up and then taking it right back down again, right? Right!?

Had a great family party for my Dad (who just retired) AND my two Nephews. One graduated from Police Academy and the other from Paramedics(and he graduated from Fire academy last year)......

And today, I have a fun Relief Society Enrichment night! Wahoo! It's our service night!

Risk Factors For Ovarian Cancer....

Today I am sharing information about RISK factors....

(Remember all month I'll be sharing different facts and info)

While most women with ovarian cancer do not have any known risk factors, some do exist. If a woman has one or more risk factors, she will not necessarily develop ovarian cancer; however, her risk may be higher than the average woman’s.

Genetics

About 10 to 15 percent of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer have a hereditary tendency to develop the disease. The most significant risk factor for ovarian cancer is an inherited genetic mutation in one of two genes: breast cancer gene 1 (BRCA1) or breast cancer gene 2 (BRCA2). These genes are responsible for about 5 to 10 percent of all ovarian cancers.

Eastern European women and women of Ashkenazi Jewish descent are at a higher risk of carrying BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.

Since these genes are linked to both breast and ovarian cancer, women who have had breast cancer have an increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Another known genetic link to ovarian cancer is an inherited syndrome called hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC or Lynch Syndrome). While HNPCC poses the greatest risk of colon cancer, women with HNPCC have about a 12 percent lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer.

Women who have one first-degree relative with ovarian cancer but no known genetic mutation still have an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer. The lifetime risk of a woman who has a first degree relative with ovarian cancer is five percent (the average woman’s lifetime risk is 1.4 percent).

Increasing Age

All women are at risk of developing ovarian cancer regardless of age; however, a woman’s risk is highest during her 60s and increases with age through her late 70s.

About 69 percent of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States from 2002 to 2006 were 55 or older.

The median age (at which half of all reported cases are older and half are younger) at diagnosis is 63.

Reproductive History and Infertility

Research suggests a relationship between the number of menstrual cycles in a woman’s lifetime and her risk of developing ovarian cancer. A woman is at an increased risk if she:

started menstruating at an early age (before 12),
has not given birth to any children,
had her first child after 30,
experienced menopause after 50,
has never taken oral contraceptives.

Infertility, regardless of whether or not a woman uses fertility drugs, also increases the risk of ovarian cancer.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Doctors may prescribe hormone replacement therapy to alleviate symptoms associated with menopause (hot flashes, night sweats, sleeplessness, vaginal dryness) that occur as the body adjusts to decreased levels of estrogen. Hormone replacement therapy usually involves treatment with either estrogen alone (for women who have had a hysterectomy) or a combination of estrogen with progesterone or progestin (for women who have not had a hysterectomy).

Women who use menopausal hormone therapy are at an increased risk for ovarian cancer. Recent studies indicate that using a combination of estrogen and progestin for five or more years significantly increases the risk of ovarian cancer in women who have not had a hysterectomy. Ten or more years of estrogen use increases the risk of ovarian cancer in women who have had a hysterectomy.

Obesity

Various studies have found a link between obesity and ovarian cancer. A 2009 study found that obesity was associated with an almost 80 percent higher risk of ovarian cancer in women 50 to 71 who had not taken hormones after menopause.

Reducing Risk

Women can reduce the risk of developing ovarian cancer in many ways; however, there is no prevention method for the disease. All women are at risk because ovarian cancer does not strike only one ethnic or age group. A healthcare professional can help a woman identify ways to reduce her risk as well as decide if consultation with a genetic counselor is appropriate.

Oral Contraceptives (birth control pills)

The use of oral contraceptives decreases the risk of developing ovarian cancer, especially when used for several years. Women who use oral contraceptives for five or more years have about a 50 percent lower risk of developing ovarian cancer than women who have never used oral contraceptives.

Each year in the United States, more than 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,000 women die of the disease.

Ovarian cancer accounts for approximately 3 percent of cancers in women.While the ninth most common cancer among women, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women, and is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers. Mortality rates are slightly higher for Caucasian women than for minority women.

A Woman’s Lifetime Risk:

A woman’s lifetime risk of developing invasive ovarian cancer is 1 in 71.

A woman’s lifetime risk of dying from invasive ovarian cancer is 1 in 95.

Age:

Ovarian cancer primarily develops in women over 45. From 2002 to 2006, the median age at diagnosis was 63.

Ovarian cancer survival rates are much lower than other cancers that affect women.

Overall, the ten-year relative survival rate for ovarian cancer patients is 39%.

The relative five-year survival rate is 46 percent. Survival rates vary depending on the stage of diagnosis.

Women diagnosed at an early stage have a much higher five-year survival rate than those diagnosed at a later stage.

Fewer than 20 percent of ovarian cancer patients are diagnosed early.

Women diagnosed with breast cancer in 1975 experienced a five-year survival rate of 75.3 percent; today, the American Cancer Society estimates the rate to be 89 percent.

Women diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1975 experienced a five-year survival rate of 69 percent; today, the American Cancer Society estimates the rate to be 71 percent.

Women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1975 experienced a five-year survival rate of 34.8 percent; today, the American Cancer Society estimates the rate to be 46 percent.

My TEAL TOTE for Ovarian Cancer Awareness!

Since this Month is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, I decided I was going to put some TEAL colored items into my ETSY shop.

By mid month I am hoping to have an entire new section in the shop FULL of Teal Colored (for Ovarian Cancer Awareness) and Orange Colored (that was my Aunt Jo's fav color) for sale. It will be called the JO COLLECTION. In which at the end of the Year I will donate portions from the sale of these items to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition & The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.

So I am proud to say that I FINISHED my FIRST Item for this!

Today is National Wear Teal Day, for Ovarian Cancer Awareness!

I wore my my TEAL today!

I never knew there were so many SHADES of teal. I have 3 teal shirts, and two have fancy names like, "Caribbean Teal," and "Seaside Teal", ha. So I went with the darker one today!

The month of September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

I believe this is a subject that doesn't NEARLY get as much attention as it needs.

And I am trying to CHANGE that!

Threw-out September I will be posting MUCH about this subject.

And Friday September 2, is National Wear Teal Day!

Wear the color for awareness, support, and memory of those who have passed on.

I will be wearing Teal, and I'll post some pictures for you on Saturday.

September 2nd wear TEAL Day, ovarian cancer awareness month.

For those of you who have been following my blog for sometime, you might remember my post about the loss of my Aunt Jo, this past May. You can read my post HERE.

After her passing, I did some research on Ovarian Cancer. And I did not like what I found. The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition website says this:

"20,000 women are diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer every year in the U.S and 15,000 die annually from the disease. As of right now there is NO early detection tests for Ovarian Cancer, and the majority of cases are diagnosed in their later stages. Awareness is the key to knowing the subtle early signs of Ovarian Cancer."

When I read this, I cried. I know if there was an early detection, My Aunt Jo would most likely be here today. She'd be getting all ready to take one of her FAVORITE vacation of the year, to Carlsbad Beach in California.

She loved the beach. She loved the Ocean.

September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

September 2nd is NATIONAL TEAL DAY, wear the color for awareness of Ovarian Cancer, and in remembrance of those who have passed on because of it.

I WILL BE WEARING TEAL ON FRIDAY!

And I am asking if you would show your support for awareness by doing so too.

Coming mid September I am hoping to have a section of my etsy shop devoted to Ovarian Cancer awareness. I will have items in Teal Blue(representing Ovarian Cancer Awareness) and ORANGE which was my aunt Jo's FAVORITE color! Proceeds from the sales will be Donated to the NOCC & the OCNA at the end of this year.

I hope I have raised a bit of awareness for you all. And I hope that you might pass it along.

What an AWESOME ending to an INSANE week, Shabby Apple!

This week has been CRAZY!

It's the first week of back to school for alot of kids here in Utah.

And it has been a MAD HOUSE at MY HOUSE!

With a first grader who HATES to get up early (she had afternoon kindergarten last year) and a 3 1/2yr old who is in that stage where EVERYTHING is a crisis, it's been a real challenge every morning this week. I am exhausted by the time the afternoon rolls around that I could take a 5 hours NAP! UGH!

But I can say that I had an AWESOME day yesterday.....

A few things really rung my bell yesterday

First off: I finally got all the paints and stains that I want to start refinishing a few pieces around my house, YES.

Second: I found out that I won the AWESOME Shabby Apple Giveaway over at Simply Designing! I about hit the ROOF when I found out! I seriously said "NO WAY" & "AWESOME" about 50 times in a row! I can not WAIT to get my dress! It's going to be GLORIOUS! Wahoo! So that really made my week!

So how has YOUR week been going?

I am hoping to have some new and totally cute projects all done and ready to post about next week!

(I made some SUPER yummy cookies yesterday too so I'll be telling you ALL about those! Not to mention my "canning" adventures from this week!)

Treasures from Grannies basement!

So I basically LOVE everything that my Granny has in her basement!

It's like the best stuff EVER!

We use to spend HOURS AND HOURS ANS HOURS ANS HOURS playing will all the cool stuff my Grandpa and Grandma had collected. And my Grandpa was a collector of AWESOMENESS!

So when my Grandpa passed away 6 years ago, my Granny told us to start POSTING our names on the things we loved so we could HAVE IT one day.

So if you walk around my Grandparents house, there are little post-its or papers with everyones names on them, it pretty funny.

Well this past year my Granny started to get to the point where she really couldn't take care of herself at home anymore. Her memory was slipping (like did she eat today? what day is it? did I take my medication?) and it was really starting to take a toll on my Mother. So my Granny was moved to the nursing home. I hate that place, but I would rather her have others to talk to and interact with than be alone at home and worry about her all the time.

With no chance of my Granny ever living at home again, she told all of us to start getting our "things"...so the past few weekends I have been bringing home my Treasures....
these are the treasures that I brought home...

This white chair LITERALLY has 5 layers of paint on it! I have started to strip it down, and its a BEAUTIFUL dark stain on the last later......as for WHY my Grandpa tacked on carpet for the seat, well that I will never know, but I have some sweet plans on what I'll be doing with that!

I LOVE this little side table! I can't decide if I want to leave it this dark stain, though there are alot of spots where the color had rubbed off and one little damaged spot that can easily be fixed ...

Now this mirror belonged to my GREAT GREAT Grandmother! So my Grandpa's Grandmother! How awesome is that! I have no intentions of painting it ANY COLOR. The Fame is made out of wood and metal overlay. I am just going to clean it up a bit. And the back paper, yeah its paper on the back not wood and its ORIGINAL, needs to be fixed in one spot and it needs new hardware to hand it up. I LOVE this mirror!

This table also belonged to my GREAT GREAT Grandmother. It is the pretties color, but it is so SCRATCHED on the top and the back edge that was against the wall that I am going to have to re-stain it for sure. I really want to out this in my living-room or my little entry way. We shall see.

I also brought home this awesome DRESSING TABLE that was my Great Grandmothers that My Grandpa had in his room(I need to get pictures of it). He told me I could have it when I was 6, so I have waited 20 years to bring it home! It even still had the little paper taped to it that I wrote my name on when I was 6, stuck nicely inside one of the drawers! haha.

I really want to use some kind of GLAZE technique on some of theses pieces but have NEVER done that before. So I will have to do my home work and see what I want to do....
